Join Prosperity Candle in our “Women in Conflict Tour” in DC and New York City!

Want to learn more about how women’s empowerment is being addressed through business and media in Iraq and Afghanistan?

On November 4, Prosperity Candle’s own Amber Chand along with Manal Omar, Christina Asquith and Women’s Voices Now spoke at Simmons College in Boston, in a panel moderated by Siiri Morley. After the event, which was attended by a wide array of people in the area, many of the attendees said that the evening had a profound and positive impact on their view of the world.

The issues discussed at the Boston event ranged from issues of identity, engaging others in the improvement of women’s rights around the globe, to the impact economic freedom can have on a women and her community. These diverse challenges that women faced were united by the common idea that women’s rights issues affect all of us no matter how far away that issue might seem.

Our kick-off event at Simmons College in Boston, MA. On the panel, from L-R, are Christina Asquith, Manal Omar, Amber Chand & Catinca Tabacaru

Prosperity Candle will continue these discussions with the same team in Washington, DC on November 12 and in New York City on November 29th. We’re excited to share our work and answer questions about women’s empowerment in Iraq and Afghanistan alongside our incredible allies working alongside us in this field.

Manal Omar, author of Barefoot in Baghdad, will read from her new book. Omar is Director of Iraq programs at United States Institute of Peace and former Country Director with Women for Women International in Iraq. Christina Asquith will read from her book Sisters in War. Asquith is an awarding winning journalist who’s book is based on the 18 months she lived in and reported from Baghdad, Iraq. The book focuses on the stories of four women living in Baghdad from 2003-2004. The evening continues with films curated by Women’s Voices Now from their Women’s Voices from the Muslim World film festival about women in Afghanistan. Films shown at the Boston event included Again Life by Hassan Fazeli and Half Value Life, which was submitted under a private name.

Please join us as both events will conclude with a Question and Answer session and cocktail receptions providing the opportunity for active dialogue. The events are free and open to the public. We hope to see you there!
