Candle season is here! Our favorite time of the year is when you can make living spaces cozy as cooler weather sets in. But we also know that home decor can sometimes feel like a luxury that we may not have at the moment. Are you trying to indulge in a seasonal aesthetic without breaking the bank? We suggest adding a small, affordable candle to help elevate your space and create a welcoming atmosphere. But what makes a good candle selection?
There are so many different types of candles you can choose from. Do you prefer bright colors or one that blends in? A minimalist design or a totally unique style? One wick or multiple wicks? There are so many different types of candles to choose from when it comes to design, price, size and, most importantly, ingredients.
With so many options to choose from and a seemingly ever-expanding price range, we want to help you find inexpensive candles without compromising quality or your health. With that in mind, we created this guide on the best affordable candles to help you know what to look for in your candle decor!
Candle Ingredients To Avoid
What makes a good candle? Price and design, which we’ll talk about later, are important elements to consider, but at the top of our list is ingredients. Many candles come with harmful and even toxic chemicals in them, all of which end up in your home when you burn the candle. We know that we wouldn’t want those things in our house, so we don’t put them in our candles. Less common but still important to be aware of is wicks made with a metal such as zinc. This makes a candle burn hotter and scent the air more strongly, but you’re also releasing unhealthy fumes into your room.
So even when shopping for a lower-cost, inexpensive candle, it’s important to consider candle ingredients to avoid. Try to search for candles labeled with phthalate-free fragrances and paraffin-free wax, two of the most popular ingredients in mass-produced candles. We use phthalate-free fragrances made with essential oils, coconut and soy wax, cotton and wood wicks, and never any dyes or scent enhancers (which are some of the worst offenders in terms of health). All of these elements contribute to a beautiful fragrance and, more importantly, a clean burning candle. Learn more about our ingredients here.
Clean, sustainable ingredients are all part of what makes a good candle. They’re essential for the well-being of the environment, your home, and the people and pets in it, the women artisans here in our studio who pour all of our candles, and candle lovers everywhere.
Affordable Candles Gift Guide
For all of us here, one of the best parts of the autumn is lighting a favorite candle for the cozy ambiance, so we’re happy to help you find the perfect affordable candle for your home. Whether you’re looking for something simple or unique, Prosperity Candle collections include affordable candles that we think you’ll love.
Tin Candles
The best affordable candles are poured in a recyclable tin. Sometimes called travel tin candles because they are easy to take with you, tin candles are typically less expensive than glass or other candles but are still a great way to elevate your home decor. They come in a variety of styles and are complete with a lid to keep your candle clean when you’re not using it. For a simple and elegant look, our Celebration Candles are sure to uplift any room. For a more unique look, the Blue and White Collection features beautiful eye-catching designs paired with amazing scents. This style of inexpensive candle looks great in any area of your home and won’t leave you with buyer’s remorse.
Jar Candles
Another affordable candle type is the classic glass jar with a lid. These are great options for both styling your own home and for gifting to others. This popular style is more affordable than larger glass or ceramic containers, and often has unique labels that contribute to your home decor. Our Essential Elements Collection is ideal for cozy days and is made the same way as all our candles… without any of the toxic candle ingredients to avoid. We also have jar candles for all those dog lovers and cat lovers in your life!
Tumbler Candles
Glass tumblers (the same as used for drinking) are larger candles that are often designed as an elegant decor option, and range from expensive to affordable. While many candle-makers price their glass tumbler candles over $50, our She Inspires Candles are $22 gift boxed and are one of our favorite affordable candle designs. For a classic style yet with a unique design and purpose, check out our Burmese Candle Collection with a wood wick for a soft crackle that adds to your cozy ambiance.
Ceramic Candles
The last style of affordable candles we’ll mention here are ceramic candles. Often the most distinctive designs, they add a unique accent to any room and can be quite pricey. One of our favorites, the Vaasa Candle, is a large ceramic candle that adds a pop of color to any room. Our Marbella Candle is another favorite not only for its beautiful design but also because it easily repurposes as a planter when the candle inside is done! Ceramic candles are where you can show your unique style and have some fun without breaking the bank.
No matter what your candle style and budget are, it’s always important to be mindful when shopping. The ingredients used and how a candle is made are as important as the design and scent. Be wary of affordable candles that compromise quality and safety. But there are plenty of good candle-makers out there, and we hope this article inspires you to seek them out in your search for the perfect candle for yourself or as a gift.
